National Princess Day | You're Almost There
Princess Tiana has to be one of my favorite of the Disney princesses, one for her representation of little black girls, and two for the reward of being a hard-working woman. Tiana was truly born out of poverty, not relying on a wish to make her dreams come true. She has a head on her shoulders and knows it’s going to take more than longing at the stars for prince charming to rescue her from her distress.
COVID-19 lockdown launch a slew of new businesses, from many women at that. These ladies found their calling, side hustle, and LLC’s. While those were busy getting their business off the ground, there were some simply trying to make it through the pandemic with their lives still intact. But there has been shaming towards the ones who didn’t take this time to build their career, shaming for running behind the rest of them. Everyone forgets though, we all have our own timing in life.
I’m sure watching everyone take boat rides and traveling along the beach in someplace tropical looks inviting and can push your work ethic. Working and wanting something you’re not ready for can throw your timeline off. You risk ruining it. So try not to get swept up in someone else’s lifestyle, no matter how luxurious it looks. Find the life that best fits you at your own pace and stay focus on your end goal.
You don’t have to do things the fast way or the way that everyone else does it either. Being smart and hard-working will bring it all to you when you are truly ready for it. With a generation that looks to work smarter, not harder you may want to cut corners to deal out complications. But problems will always happen along the way, in any business. Tackle those issues head-on and never give up. Know that everyone who has made it to success didn’t have a smooth ride getting there. So don’t let your drawbacks discourage you.
For those fortunate to have their father in their lives, many girls feel like Daddy’s Princess and I was no exception. I always looked to my dad for magical moments because he was like a King to me, and of course, I kind of blame him for making me a spoiled brat. But like Tiana, I had the wisdom from my father. Regardless of if my daddy always swung in to save the day, he wanted my siblings and I to never wait on anyone, to get it and have it on our own. But not even just from my dad, growing up I watched my mother work hard every day to take care of her family. My daddy blessed me with the go-getter attitude but my mother gave me the work ethic I needed to truly make it.
Although Tiana is the only princess to turn into a frog, she did get her fairytale ending. She fulfilled the dreams of hers and her father with the opening of Tiana’s Palace, while also gaining a husband as a bonus. Tiana showed us the value of being diligent, driven, and determined. Today is National Princess Day and I hope no matter where you are in your life, no matter what your background is, you always remember that every day you are a Princess. Never give up on finding your happy ending, regardless if that’s searching for your prince charming like Charlotte La Bouff, or playing in a band like Louie the ‘gator, or starting your own restaurant like Princess Tiana. All your hard work, planning, researching, wishing, and praying will pay off one day. When it does, the world better watch it because…
