Are You Really A Hot Girl Sis?

It all started with a 24 year old college student from Houston named Meg.

We all been seeing what’s been going on on social media, with female rappers killing the game, like City Girls, Saweetie, and Meg the Stallion. It was no time before we got our summer trend.  This time around, women are celebrating being women and joining the “Hot Girl” team.  Now, before we dive into the shenanigans of this summer, lets first explain what a Hot Girl is. The term was coined from fans when Meg’s hit “Cash Shit,” from her first mix-tape Fever, started to climb the charts. Megs fans then started calling themselves “Hot Girls” as many devoted fans do, like Nicki Minaj’s Barbs and Rihanna’s Navy. Megs fans just so happened to add an actual agenda to there fan club and claims to be on “Real Hot Girl Shit.” But what does that really mean?

Being a Hot Girl is about being un-apologetically YOU, having fun, being confident, living YOUR truth, being the life of the party etc.

-Captain Meg Thee Stallion

In other words, it's about living your life to the fullest, going out, being happy, and not worried about anything that doesn’t bring a positive energy.

Social media has definitely taken on it's own form of it when it comes between the battle of Hot Girls and City Boys.  In this instance, you see multiple post on twitter and even throughout the Shaderoom on Instagram of people having a great summer.  When in reality, it's just a contest of who can dog who.  You see rappers out here with multiple girlfriends, women taking trips with both their man and side boo, even young men out here blocking and unblocking their sugar-mommas when they want to record her and post it to the blogs.  It’s a lot, I know. But as you all can tell, this Hot Girl v.s. City Boys thing has for sure took on a mind of it's own.

Aside from all the messiness but yet friendly fun that has been going on this summer, there is really a powerful message that Meg Thee Stallion has brought to us.  In a time where racism and hate crimes are present everyday, where we have a "leader" caring more about his twitter account than his country, and just struggle with our everyday ordeals, Meg has given us something to look forward too.  She has given us an outlet to say, "Screw all my worries, I am alive, I love myself, and I am going to enjoy my life, regardless of what anyone says or think!"

It’s just basically about women — and men — just being un-apologetically them, just having a good-ass time, hyping up your friends, doing you, not giving a damn about what nobody got to say about it. You definitely have to be a person that can be the life of the party, and, y’know, a bad bitch.

-Meg Thee Stallion

It has for sure taken on many means though.  For some women, it means not stressing over no man.  Which consist of, not blowing up their phone when they don’t answer, not engaging in a platonic relationship, dating around but not being tied to one person, and not getting caught up in what someone else is doing. And this has became a constant theme for not just female rappers, but all female artist. Lizzo, another artist from Houston, TX became an overnight sensation with her hit “Truth Hurts,” from her third Album, Cuz I Love You. The first few lines are,

I just took a DNA test, turns out I'm 100% that bitch
Even when I'm crying crazy
Yeah, I got boy problems, that's the human in me
Bling bling, then I solve 'em, that's the goddess in me

This has quickly became a song that got stuck in your head and plastered under every girls Instagram captions because it has all the right words and attitude to let the World know that you’re THAT bitch. Women have been taking criticism on all outlets and they are now fighting back with celebration, rather than retaliation and indulging in everything from their sexuality all down to self love and vulnerability. And even with the new soundtrack for the live action Lion King, Beyonce and other artist collaborated on an album that not only celebrated being themselves, but that celebrated Brown Skin Girls, and has became widely appreciated. More than ever I see black women and men, girls and boys, proud to be living in their brown skin, to be happy about who they are, and it’s giving them the strength to stand back up when someone comes in trying to break them down.

So I guess, it depends on how you’re looking at it, what definition you want to throw on it, and what type of life you’re living. But if it’s one where you’re happy, you wake up feeling free, and beautiful, and find peace within everything you do, than girl, you are living a Hot Girl Summer!
