Everything is not meant to last.  That’s just the reality of it.  We aren’t meant to hold on to things forever because they do not belong to us.  Sometimes letting go of it can be easy.  Other times you may struggle to do so.  Whether it be moving on from a relationship, letting go of a friendship, or even an old grudge that has been hurting you, it can be hard to simply just walk away.  And I know this for a fact because I am the Queen of not letting go.

I can admit, it takes me longer than others to walk away from something that isn’t making me happy.  I can’t exactly put my finger on why.  Maybe it’s the love that I have for people.  Maybe it’s me living in the past.  Or even me just not wanting to accept that what I had is gone.  It just isn’t equipped in me to leave things alone.

As I said, this is an area where I struggle.  It’s hard to sometimes accept a new reality, one that isn’t in favor of you.  For instance, in many cases for me, I can’t accept the changes made in a person.  It takes me a while to see the new them, which stops me from accepting their new actions.  I get stuck in the image I had of them originally and fail to see that that isn’t them anymore.  Allow your mind to be changed.  See everything for what it is and not what you want it to be.  It’s definitely easier said than done, which is why I find it is the first and most important step you can make in letting go.

A lot of times we feel like we have something to prove to the World.  So we can’t let go of a topic until everyone knows what happened, everyone knows your side of the story, everyone knows you’re right.  You don’t have to do that.  As long as you know your truth, find peace with that.  You can run yourself into the ground trying to prove something to people because at the end of the day, they are going to think what they want.  So let them.

Moving on can definitely be an emotional roller coaster.  You can feel a sense of loss or anger.  Be okay one moment and the next you’re not.  I know for me I sometimes try to act like I’m okay, like what I’m walking away from isn’t affecting me.  I try to force the problem away.  Don’t be like me.  As I said earlier, you have to accept what happened, so that means accept the feelings that are coming to you.  Ignoring how you feel is only going to prolong you letting it go.  Sometimes you have to live in your feelings and move with them so you can move from them.

I’m not going to say my pain made me, but it definitely added on to my strength.  I would get to a point where my grief was pushing me to get better.  It was pushing me to move on.  Our hurt can be a motivation to get better.  Know your discomfort and work to not be in that place anymore.  And if you’re stubborn like me, it will take a little suffering here and there for you to finally be like, “Okay, fuck this.  I’m ready to move on to a new chapter.”

Maybe what you are trying to let go of is something that you feel like you need, that you feel help make you or make you happy.  Try to remember your life before that time.  Remember how you were fine before whoever walked into your life or whatever situation came your way.  We sometimes can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel because we think we can’t get there.  More than likely, we’ve already been there.  The situation at hand is just blinding us.  You were a Queen before it, and you’ll damn sure still be a Queen after it.

At the end of the day, you have to be bigger than the situation to really let go.  Whatever the case may be, don’t let it break you.  Take it as another lesson of life.  Appreciate the time you had with whatever you have to walk away from and walk away.  And who knows, maybe it wasn’t the right time, maybe you weren't who you need to be to keep it, or really it just wasn’t for you.  But whatever it is, know that this doesn’t define who you are.  So take a deep breath, pull in all your strength, and let it go!
